Staffordshire Soldiers of the Great War 1914 to 1919

This site contains information regarding the service of all these men wherever it has been identified. The information will continue to grow as more and more data becomes available and is added to the site.  The data is divided into two sections:

  1. Free Search

This section provides a list of all Surnames, First Names, Rank and Regiment of individuals and whether the subject was a victim of war.

  1. Paid Search

Further information may be accessed by payment of a fee that enables a search of up to 25 selected individuals for a sum of £5.00. Access to this information is then valid for a period of 5 days from payment of the fee.

This information may also include details of the subject’s presence on a War Memorial in Staffordshire. These Memorials may be situated within Churches, Town and Village Halls, in streets of towns or villages, or be connected to places of work within the county. Many individuals can be traced to more than one memorial at place of birth, of worship, place of residence or work.

The subject may not have died during the war and details of his service may exist from “Rolls of Honour” composed in memory of those who served. This may contain information of his place of residence or worship, regiment or service, or of rank, some contain details such as, of wounding or date of enlistment.

Additional data has been researched from local newspapers in Staffordshire. A list of sources is available in the index attached to this site. This information may contain details of their wife or parents, of addresses, age, enlistment, dates of service, church, of employment and may other facts.

Please note the site is being continually renewed and it is not possible to indicate how much information is available on any one individual at any one time. The site at present contains the names of 35000 individuals the majority of the information being available for subjects from A to J.

IMPORTANT: The information held on every individual is not uniform in its content. Some individuals may only have very basic information about them.

Updates on the latest news, such as the dates of newspapers covered are available in the Index.

Photographs & Images

The site also contains references to two directories of photographs. The first consists of photos of most of the memorials inspected. These images are linked by a code to individual names within the database. Images so coded are available as a download from the this site. The photographs generally consist of an overall view of the whole monument and images of all aspects of each memorial upon which writing occurs.

IMPORTANT: Every effort is made to photograph clearly all aspects of a memorial and for the names of all individuals to be legible. It is regretted that in certain cases some parts of the image may not be as clear as might be wished, or names may be obscured.

These images are available for a fee of £5.00 for the first image and £2.50 for each image thereafter.

The second list of images is of servicemen photographed during the war years and whose photographs appeared in journals of the time. The individuals of whom images may exist are to be found within the database. These images are available for purchase and the price will be quoted on request.
